The Life of an Artist: “Israel in Israel”

An intimate journey through the moments that shaped me, the muses that inspire me, and the art that pours out of my soul.

This documentary film series is more than just a glimpse into my life. It’s an intimate journey through the moments that shaped me, the muses that inspire me, and the art that pours out of my soul.

Through exclusive footage, candid conversations, and behind-the-scenes insights, I’m peeling back the curtain to reveal the heart and mind of an artist. You’ll witness the highs and lows, the triumphs and struggles, and the unwavering dedication that fuels my craft.

If you’ve ever wondered what drives me, what sparks my creativity, or what it means to be an artist born and raised in the city of Lagos, then this documentary series is a must-watch. The film also includes behind-the-scenes footage of my artworks for the Nigeria 5 group exhibition held in Tel Aviv, Israel, at Corridor Contemporary.

Chapters: 00:00 Intro – Why I choose to create. 01:16 Who is Fatola? 02:21 What does art mean to you? 03:11 My first art exhibition – throwback. 04:33 Conversation with my muse. 06:11 What does “Eve” mean? (thematic summary). 06:54 Up next – technical analysis.

The film traces a formative journey from a reflective childhood in Lagos to international recognition on the Tel Aviv art scene. It revisits my first major exhibition in 2016, where “Mojisola” won second prize at Idealism and Fantasy, organised by the Embassy of Spain at the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Abuja. It also shows how friends serve as muses, including Onyeka, who is featured in the nine-foot Eve (Part I), and explains the patterns and symbols in the work – lines, circles, squares and triangles – and the celebration of women and their role in society.

What people are saying: “Thank you Fatola for creating this.” – Adebola Kalejaye. “Love you, bro, keep making magic… watching you grow over the years has been an amazing experience. You are a superstar.” – Olaloye Bunmi. “I watched this documentary from start to finish and I was immersed into the story. I’m so proud to be a part of this story. Well done guy.” – David Declan.
